Filter Care Guide

Replacement Schedule

• Hollow fiber filter: Replace every 4–8 weeks under normal use (1–2 pets, tap water). Higher water hardness, multiple pets, or heavy use may shorten this interval.

Replace sooner if you notice any of these signs:

• Water flow slows noticeably or becomes irregular
• Water takes on an unusual taste or odor
• The filter membrane appears discolored, visibly soiled, or physically damaged
• You have 3 or more pets or use hard, unfiltered tap water

Routine Fountain Cleaning

• Rinse the fountain bowl and pump weekly to prevent mineral and biofilm buildup.
• Deep-clean the entire fountain — including the pump impeller — every 2–4 weeks with mild dish soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly before reassembling.
• Hollow fiber membranes can be gently backflushed with clean water to extend their working life between scheduled replacements — do not use soap or cleaning agents on the membrane itself.
• Do not use bleach or harsh chemical cleaners on any fountain component, as residue can be harmful to pets.

What This Filter Can and Cannot Do

• The hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane is designed to capture fine particles, sediment, hair, and debris from tap water.
• It is not designed to purify untreated well water, salt water, or heavily contaminated water sources.
• These filters do not replace the need for regular fountain cleaning — a clean fountain and a fresh filter work together for best results.

• Not compatible with the Penthouse Paws Smart Water Fountain (wired model) — that model uses a carbon filter kit (sold separately).
