About Sumter Humane Society
The Sumter Humane Society is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Americus, Georgia, dedicated to caring for orphaned cats and dogs since 1984. Founded to address the critical challenges of abandonment, overpopulation, and human neglect within Sumter County, the society serves as an essential safety net for animals in distress. Operating with limited local government funding that only covers an animal's first five days, the shelter relies almost entirely on private donations and grants to provide essential medical care, basic vaccinations, and behavioral enrichment for the pets under its roof.
Governed by an all-volunteer board of directors and managed by a small paid staff alongside local volunteers, the society makes a major regional impact by placing more than 200 animals into permanent, loving homes annually. Additionally, they proactively combat pet overpopulation by transferring over 500 animals each year to dedicated rescue facilities across the country and facilitating local community sterilization through their Spay/Neuter Assistance Program. Through this multifaceted approach, the Sumter Humane Society works tirelessly to ensure that every vulnerable companion animal receives a true chance at a healthy, happy life.

Animals over profits: Unlike typical corporate chains, we are completely against selling animals — always, now, and forever.
You choose where 25% of the earnings goes: We believe in full transparency — we calculate this 25% before paying for any executive salaries or business overhead. By skipping the fancy corporate costs, we ensure the money actually lands where it belongs: with the animals.
