Ashe Humane Society is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in West Jefferson, North Carolina, dedicated to protecting and enhancing the welfare of companion animals throughout rural Ashe County. Operating independently of county government funding, the society steps in as a vital safety net for dogs and cats facing euthanasia at the local municipal animal control shelter by providing them with comprehensive medical care and essential vaccinations.

The organization operates entirely as a foster-based network, placing rescued pets directly into private family homes where they can receive love and proper socialization instead of waiting in cages. Backed wholly by public donations, the all-volunteer team also works to address the root causes of pet overpopulation by coordinating a monthly community spay/neuter transport program and managing an active Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiative for free-roaming community cats.
