Almost Home Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization based in Chariton, Iowa, serving Lucas County and surrounding south-central Iowa communities. The organization is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned, stray, abused, and at-risk companion animals—primarily dogs and cats—while providing comprehensive intake veterinary care, core vaccinations, microchipping, and mandatory spay/neuter services. They also provide community support programs, including local low-cost vaccine clinics and a public pet pantry.

Operating primarily from a dedicated, licensed shelter facility on Lincoln Avenue, the organization provides a safe and structured environment for its resident animals until placement. Almost Home Animal Rescue is funded entirely through direct public donations, community fundraisers, grants, and standard adoption fees, placing fully vetted animals into carefully screened permanent homes following comprehensive application, veterinary, and home reference checks.

Animals over profits: Unlike typical corporate chains, we are completely against selling animals — always, now, and forever.

You choose where 25% of the earnings goes: We believe in full transparency — we calculate this 25% before paying for any executive salaries or business overhead. By skipping the fancy corporate costs, we ensure the money actually lands where it belongs: with the animals.
